The child brings curiosity, energy, emotion, and developing abilities into the relationship. The adult brings responsibility for safety, preparation, judgment, and guidance.

We cannot expect children to supply the order that adults have not yet established.

Being the adult means remaining responsible when a child is disappointed, resistant, distracted, or overwhelmed. We listen to the child, consider what the behavior communicates, and hold necessary boundaries without humiliation or a struggle for power.

Within Islamic Montessori education, this responsibility is an amanah—a trust. We nurture the child’s God-given dignity while teaching care for self, respect for others, and responsibility toward the environment. Our own conduct becomes part of the lesson.
